The Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Dr. Demola Sogunle has commended the University of Ibadan for the very good educational foundation that he received at the University.

 

He obtained First Class Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D degrees, all from the University of Ibadan.

Dr. Sogunle, who spoke at his investiture as a UI@75 Ambassador in Lagos said if there was any University in Nigeria that has the capacity to compete in the group of the top 300 universities in the world, then that university is the University of Ibadan.

 

 

He recalled that during his undergraduate days in UI, he belonged to a group of 15 students from different departments who all finished in First Class or Second Class Upper.

 

 

He said all these graduates are excelling in their different professions today because of the sound background which UI gave them.

 

 

He recalled that he attended a programme in New York where the facilitators were astounded at the quality of engagement which his participation elicited. He attributed his performance to the quality of education he received in UI.

 

 

Dr. Sogunle who was supported by his wife, Mrs Abosede Sogunle also an Alumna of UI, said he was honoured to be considered worthy out of the thousands of graduates that the University had produced.

 

 

He said he and his wife are always very proud and passionate about the University of Ibadan and had instituted several awards and prizes in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, said Dr. Sogunle was identified and honoured as an Ambassador to celebrate the excellence for which the University is known in its 75 years of existence.

 

 

The Chairman of the UI@75 Anniversary Committee, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, said the University wishes to use the opportunity of its 75th anniversary to boost its Endowment Fund; establish scholarships for excellent and indigent students; invest in Green Energy; improve infrastructure for teaching, learning and research; as well as develop staff and improve students mobility.

 

He said UI@75 Ambassadors are expected to help drive the University’s fund raising efforts for the projects.
