The Nigeria Premier University, University of Ibadan has matriculated three thousand, seven-hundred and ninety-two (3,792) fresh students into the prestigious institution.
The matriculation ceremony held at the popular International Conference of the institution sees the joyous and enthusiasm of the newly admitted students of the institution for the rare meritorious privilege given to them after going through a rigorous and non-compromise admission process.
Equipping the matriculating students, the Matriculation Lecturer, Mr. Michael Mekuleyi, who was the previous Head of Google Developers Students’ Clubs at the University of Ibadan charged the new students to be dedicated and explore the opportunities of digital knowledge and skills in their pursuit of first academic degree in the Premier University of Ibadan, UI.
Mekuleyi further used his undergraduate experiences, and how he climbed the ladder of first class during his time for the newly admitted students to explore and take a clue from.
Speaking to the 3,792 matriculating students, and general public, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, who is ably represented by the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Aderonke Mojisola Baiyero, welcomed all to the beginning of another milestone academic journey in the university history.
Recalling his undergraduate experience with the matriculating students, Prof. Kayode Adebowale narrated that, “it was a nostalgic one as I was not born with a silver spoon. I only came to the University with a dream to make something out of life.” It was on this that he charged the students to have a dream and purpose of coming to University of Ibadan as the world is awaiting their success stories.
VC further note “Today’s matriculation ceremony is particularly significant because this set is the 75th set to be admitted into this great citadel of learning and this rite of passage is to properly initiate you into the tradition of excellence that the University of Ibadan is known for.”
“Count yourselves among the highly privileged to be admitted into this great university. Considering the number of applicants and the few of you that were eventually admitted. Given the rigor of our admission process and the non-compromise of merit we can conclude that those of you seated here today are the best of the best. The onus then lies on you to prove the whole world that you are truly the best.” He concluded.
Also, the institution admitted; One hundred and ninety-one (191) into Faculty of Agriculture, Five hundred and ninety-three (593) into the Faculty of Arts, while five hundred and eighty-one (581) admitted to College of Medicine, Seventy-six (76) to Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, and Five hundred and eighty-four (584) to Faculty of Education.
Others are forty-seven (47) to Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, one hundred and forty-nine (149) to Faculty of Law, while Faculty of Pharmacy had one hundred and three (103) new students, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources (92), and five hundred and eighty-nine (589) into Faculty of Science, four hundred and sixty-nine (469) into Faculty of Technology, two hundred and twenty-four (224) into Faculty of Social Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine admitted ninety-four (94) students.
