The sustainable contributions of Oyo state chapter of the Nigerian Union of journalists to national development has been lauded by Oyo state Director of National Orientation Agency, Dr Olukemi Afolayan in Ibadan, oyo state capital today.


This was contained in a release by the media unit of the Agency forwarded to the press in Oyo state by Alhaji isiaka Adeniyi, According to the release, “rising from the auspicious occasion of the opening ceremony of the NUJ press week, held at, Dapo Aderogba Hall, Press Centre, Iyaganku, on Monday afternoon, the 16th of October, the State Director, extolled the forward looking instincts of the State Excos of NUJ and all media practitioners in the state for giving the public objective reportage of events without any fear , bias nor colouration. This, the Director opined has set the Union on a well deserved pedestal above its peers in other states.


The state Director who scored the Union high for prompt dissemination of Information to the people as well as being a credible watchdog of the society.


Also urged the Union not to rest on its oars as the backbone of any democracy is an independent, professional & responsible media.


The NOA state Director also noted that the calibre of people in attendance today is a demonstration of the people ‘ s love and confidence in Oyo NUJ and she urged the Union to continue its good work so as not to let its admirers down.



The Press week was declared opened by the Commissioner for information and Orientation who stood in for the Executive Governor of Oyo state, Governor Oluseyi Makinde, Other dignitaries that graced the colourful official opening included Dr Yemi Farohunbi, Chief Dotun Oyelade, Pastor Suleiman Olanrewaju (CPS) to the Governor, Mrs Folashade Adeniyi, Oyo state NBA chairman, Mrs Ebunioluwa Omolara who represented the Minister of Information and a host of others.
