A  team of specialists from the African Development Bank (AfDB) was in the University of Ibadan on an assessment visit to the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (including Health and Agriculture) (PAULESI).

 

The team, accompanied by the management and staff of PAULESI, paid a courtesy visit to  the Vice-Chancellor in  his office.

 

The team leader, Dr. Takei Keiko was full of appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the University of Ibadan at large for the support given to PAULESI throughout  its Phase 1 operations, which ended last year.

 

She informed the VC that the team was in PAULESI to conduct significant needs assessment of the Institute as it is being prepared to move to Phase 2 of its operations.

 

She stated that Phase 1 of PAULESI operations was concluded in 2022 with a full success story of awarding 2000 Masters and 600 Ph. D. degrees, many of whom were to international students, which added to the international status of the University of Ibadan.

 

Dr. Takei Keiko informed the VC that the African Union (AU) and AfDB are aiming to commence Phase 2 of PAULESI as from September 2024.

 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Ezekiel Olusola Ayoola, who spoke on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, mni, FAS thanked the team for the visit and support in time past.

 

He commended the decision of the funding bodies to move PAULESI to the next phase of its operations.

 

The VC encouraged the team to do a holistic assessment of needs in every facet so that the next phase of operation will be free of any encumbrances.

He expressed the delight of the University of Ibadan to continue to play its hosting roles and to provide an enabling environment for the operations of PAULESI as it is moved to Phase 2 of its operations.
