St. Louis Grammar School Ibadan Old Girls Association (SLOGA), Ireland Chapter, has organised a “Book -a-Thon in celebration of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka’s 90th Birthday anniversary.
The event which was held last Friday on the School premises, witnessed the recitation of quotes from famous authors by the students of both senior and junior Secondary Schools.
Also In celebration of the Nobel Laureate, hundreds of fiction books were donated to the students of the school.
In her remarks the book-a-thon committee chairperson and immediate past Chairman of SLOGA, Ireland Chapter, Dr Adefolake Fanifosi, said that the event is a gesture organised to promote the love of books and reading in the school.
In her opening address, the chairperson of SLOGA Ireland Chapter, Mrs Joyce Ogunyemi, who was represented by the president of Ibadan Chapter, Dr Adeyoola Olaitan, urged the students to brace up and aim for giant strides like the literary icon.
“Today’s programme is an educative event In celebration of a worthy Africa’s son, a literary icon who the students should emulate “, she said .
Olaitan Admonished students to learn more about Soyinka by reading his books.
Speaking to news men , the Chief Executive Officer, Literacy Hub and guest speaker and guest speaker at the event, Ayo Tejuosho stated that the initiative is an event needed at a time like this .
Tejuosho who engaged the students in an interactive session to enrich their literacy skills, commended the alumnae for organising the event and other initiatives in support of education in the state.
She urged the students of the school to imbibe the culture of reading.
Those present at the event include, The Dean Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, University of Ibadan, Professor Adejoke Akinyele, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sociology, University of Ibadan, Dr Funke Adegoke, the principal of St Louis Granmar School (Junior), Mrs Christianah Ayeni, Principal of St. Louis Grammar School, Senior, Oyeyemi Shadare.
