The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Oyo State, Hon. Seun Ashamu has expressed government’s readiness to clamp down on vandals and cable thieves sabotaging efforts of government under Light-Up Project for the state.
Barrister Ashamu gave the warning on Tuesday that there will be no mercy for anyone caught destroying such public goods that government spent heavily on to make life more meaningful for good people of Oyo State.
Ashamu gave this stern warning while speaking with journalists after the State Executive Council meeting in Ibadan where he said government will go tougher with those vandals and criminals whom he described as saboteurs of the spirited efforts of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led government at making basic amenities accessible to the citizens that will boost the economic activities across the state.
Speaking further, Ashamu explained that the state government approved the payment of N3.1billion as a backlog for the operation and maintenance of the light-up project from January 2020 to April 2023 following the damages that were done to the project by vandals, thieves, and accidents.
