A chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State, Hon. Akinjide Kazeem Akinola has hailed the decision of the party to participate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the state.
Akinjide in a press statement to journalists further explained that, Local Government is the third level of government closer to the people at the grassroots and that its election brings to them their desired and immediate dividends of democracy that the duo of the state and federal government may not in due and appropriate time.
“Yes, local government aids local development and helps both the state and federal government to ease their burden of requests from local communities but sadly, that level of government has been destroyed beyond normal level. It is not particular to any party but a national syndrome that we all should come together to arrest.”
“When the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), announced the commencement of the process to the conduct of 2024 Local Government Elections, many have thought my party, APC, wouldn’t participate in the process. I am happy now that we prove the doubting Thomases wrong on this and display our belief in the democratic governance we are known for.”
“While at that, I am appealing to our dear esteemed members and aspiring candidates to fully participate in the Elections. We can defeat the ruling PDP. Yes, we can do it. We’ve all seen the previous occupiers of our local governments and how they’ve handled their administration, that’s why I said we can do it. We’ll equally support the party and candidates where necessary during the process.”
“Lastly, I am equally appealing to the ruling PDP Government of His Excellency, Gov. Seyi Makinde to be fair with all other participating parties in the Local Government electoral process.” He concluded.
