District 9126 of Rotary International has called on Nigerian youths to take advantage of opportunities in entrepreneurship, Information Technology (IT), and the digital world to secure a better future. The call was made during A Day Youth Summit held at Rotary House, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

In her welcome address, Rotarian Kemi Akinpelu PHF+1, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, emphasized the importance of bringing young minds together for learning, engagement, and nation-building; core values of Rotary International. She encouraged the youth to be passionate, purpose-driven, and mission-oriented, while shaping their perspectives on Nigeria and the global youth landscape.

She noted, “As Rotarians and Rotaractors, we must strive to positively impact lives and communities.”

Also speaking at the event, the District 9126 Chairperson, Rotarian Omotanwa Azeez, applauded Rotaractors for their contributions to society. She expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who made the summit a success, stating that events like this are vital for reshaping the future of Nigeria.

“Innovation and entrepreneurship represent the new world order. Our youths must embrace engagement and networking for national growth,” she said.

Representing the District Governor, Rotarian Kayode Olowolagba, the Zonal District Coordinator, Rotarian Olusoji Sangobiyi, highlighted the significance of innovation and entrepreneurial development in youth empowerment.

“Innovation and entrepreneurship are shaping the future. Youths must adopt new thinking approaches and align with the digitalized world. This summit provides a platform for dialogue, learning, and growth,” Sangobiyi noted.

Facilitator and Product Designer, Mr. Salaudeen AbdulRauf Shina, guided participants on unlocking opportunities through IT skill development. He emphasized that the tech industry extends beyond coding and includes fields such as product management, data analysis, and cybersecurity.

“Curiosity and self-assessment are vital in the tech world. Youths should identify areas that excite them and follow a structured learning path,” he advised. He also encouraged enrollment in online courses, leveraging technology, and seeking internships for hands-on experience.

In a storytelling session, Mr. Agboola Babatunmise emphasized the value of trust, quality, and relationship-building in entrepreneurship. He advised young entrepreneurs to give their best in every project and prioritize integrity.

Career coach, Mrs. Oluwakemi Idowu, stressed the importance of distinguishing between academic discipline and career interests. According to her, both are major life decisions that require careful thought.

Representing Rotarian Samuel Kolawole, President of Rotary Club of Ibadan-Jericho Metro, Rotarian Kemi Akinpelu reiterated the critical role of youths in community development and nation-building. She urged them to be agents of positive change and to reject corruption.

Other Rotarians in attendance who encouraged and guided the participants included Zonal Coordinator Rotarian Olusoji Sangobiyi, District Chairperson Rotarian Omotanwa Azeez, LOC Chairperson Rotarian Kemi Akinpelu PHF+1, Rotarian Adewale Adesokan, Rotarian Ekwueme, Rotarian Lawal Ismael, and Rotarian Ganiyat Tijani.
