The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has charged higher degrees graduands of the University to be worthy ambassadors now that they carry the emblem of the first and best University.
Professor Adebowale gave the charge during the third day of the 2023 Convocation ceremonies when graduands were admitted to higher degrees of Master and Master of Philosophy in various disciplines. Postgraduate Diploma and Certificates were also awarded.
He told the higher degree graduates to note that the society is expecting from them a high level of academic and behavioural excellence, innovative problem-solving skills,and leadership that produces result.
Professor Adebowale said at 75, University of Ibadan was determined to support the development of this nation and the realization of the national economic recovery and growth plan of the present administration.
He noted that the University of Ibadan through its Postgraduate College, had produced the highest number of higher-level manpower in Nigeria, in the West African Subregion and in the African continent.
He remarked that the University is commited to the pursuit of national development through its enriched teaching, learning and research programmes that would provide the required skills for internalizing the development process and serve as catalyst for the political, social and economic development of the nation.
Prof. Adebowale encouraged the graduands to look back and give to the University of Ibadan.
Awards were presented to three overall best Master’s students; Akabuogu Chidinma Joy; (Pharmacognosy); Alaka Hamidat Opeyemi (Pharmacognosy ) and Ayoade Adedeji Kayode (Health Education). Doctoral scholars were also identified. All the award winners would have their Doctor of Philosophy degrees sponsored by the University.
A total of 5,661 graduates were admitted into Academic Master’s, Professional Master’s and Master of Philosophy Degrees. Postgraduate Diplomas, and certificates were also awarded.
